PureBallast 3 - Introduction courses

These self-studies give an introduction to PureBallast 3 ballast water treatment systems:

  • PureBallast 3 Std and Ex
  • PureBallast 3 Compact
  • PureBallast 3 Compact Flex

The courses will give an overall understanding of the system components, control system navigation and how to operate the system.

 

Course 1

PureBallast 3 - Introduction

 

Duration: 90 minutes

This self-study gives an introduction to PureBallast 3 ballast water treatment systems. The course will give an overall understanding of the system components, control system navigation and how to operate the system.

 

Prerequisites for the courses

No specific prerequisites needed.


Learning objectives

Course 2

PureBallast 3 - Service and maintenance

 

Level: intermediate

 

Duration: 15 minutes

This self-study includes training in safety, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting for PureBallast 3 ballast water treatment systems.

 

Prerequisites for this course

You should be familiar with PureBallast 3 ballast water treatment systems. It is recommended to complete the PureBallast 3 - introduction training module before starting this course.

 

Learning objectives

  • Identify safety risks and the precautions you need to take to avoid accidents
  • Recognize when and how calibration and maintenance must be carried out
  • Recognize how to troubleshoot alarms and warnings
  • Recognize what PureBallast 3 offers in terms of training and support, and how to contact Alfa Laval

Course 3

PureBallast 3 - Operation

 

​​​Level: intermediate

 

Duration: 60 minutes

 

PureBallast has two operational modes adapted for IMO and USCG legislation. In this e-learning you will learn more about the different modes and how to operate the system to ensure that you stay compliant. The e-learning combines text, videos and interactive exercises. At the end of the course, you can print your certificate.

 

Prerequisites for this course

Before doing this course, you should be familiar with the working principle of the PureBallast system, and its components and processes. It is recommended to complete the PureBallast 3 - introduction training module before starting this course.


Learning objectives

  • Describe the differences between IMO and USCG operational modes
  • Describe what measures that are needed in order to be compliant with IMO and USCG regulations
  • Be able to apply the best practices on how to operate the PureBallast system

 

Target group

Deck department: Master, chief officer, 2nd officer, 3rd officer and junior officer.

Course 4

PureBallast 3 - Introduction to ballast water sampling

 

​​​Level: Basic

 

Duration: 45 minutes

 

This self-study describes why, when and how sampling of ballast water is carried out, and what is required by IMO and the US in terms of sampling when using an ultraviolet (UV)-based ballast water treatment system.

The training builds on the legislation that was effective in the beginning of 2021. Please note that the legislation and the requirements may have changed since the release of this training. Also, details on the test methods, routines and specific authorities’ requirements are still to be defined by individual flag states.

 

Prerequisites for this course

No specific prerequisites are needed.


Learning objectives

  • Identify IMO's and the US authorities' requirements on ballast water sampling.
  • Identify the steps in the sampling process for commissioning sampling and VGP sampling.
  • Identify the Port State Control's routines for sampling.
  • Describe what is defined as compliant operation.
